Printmaking:

I find printmaking a really fun and challenging medium to work with and I see it as an extension of my drawing. Although much of my work exists as etchings, I have also made lino prints, monoprints, collagraphs, embossings, lithographs and screen-prints too.

My most favourite printmaking process is etching though. Etching is a printmaking process that dates back around 500 years. The etching process involves sheets of metal, usually made of copper or zinc, and acid is used to etch the print onto the metal. The artist can use complicated methods to create different effects, but always relies on acid to etch the plate. The more complicated the etching, the more time consuming and labour intensive it will be. I love how versatile the medium is and all the different effects you can create.

These particular etchings shown above consist of combined techniques: hard ground etching, soft ground etching, aquatint, spitbiting, selective wiping and others.

This body of work, entitled, "Still Lives", follows this recurrent character once again and beings together ideas of surveillance, existence, suppression, control and order.
